Thursday Part II

I want to give the Imagine It! literacy decision a little more background.

Our students who come to us in Kindergarten and leave in 5th grade after 6 years should be proficient. The method to ensure this is a consistent literacy program, Imagine It!, supported by targeted interventions. RTI, Response to instruction, is the process.

1. we instruct
2. we assess
3. we DO SOMETHING if they have not responded to our instruction.

Often this DO SOMETHING is called intervention. The literacy program, along with DIBELS, will allow us to target the areas that students need. Therefore, we will not just do something, but do targeted and specific instruction to help them achieve grade level reading proficiency.

Imagine It! is a balanced literacy program and will meet all the requirements of the district's reading program. We will have the tool to allow us to communicate about students vertically as what happens in each grade level will no longer be a mystery.

I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of a MAJOR change that will give our students the skills to be successful beyond the 5th grade year.

Action ITEM - We have a hole in the schedule on Friday with our Spanish instruction. Marina may not be here and Colleen will be on a field trip with the 1st grade. We need some assistance in the AM for the 3rd grade Spanish Block. If you are interested and can help teach from 8:30-10:00 please see me or Colleen today.

Continue to sign up for the IMAGINE IT and SIOP training. Janie will be here tonight at 3:15 in Nicole's room to give an overview and take questions. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Please Go to the staff shared folder to review the Documents from last nights meeting and use the links for the TWC survey. Click HERE and it will take you there also.

Thanks for all you do! I am honored to be working here for our students best interests.
