DASH!

The following is the text from an e-amil from Deb Fidali to staff on February 8th.

As announced in the last Staff meeting, the kickoff assembly for the WS Dash reading program will be held on Wednesday, 2/17 at 1:30 in the gym. The program will last between 25 - 30 minutes and students will receive a cookie from Dewey's.

The program is designated to be implemented by the classroom teachers over an eight week period. The students 'run' the bases in two week intervals, meeting their reading goal as established by the teacher. This should reflect reading levels and goals set already for the student. After a successful two weeks, they reach first base. The next two weeks comprise second base, etc... Students are awarded coupons from McDonald's (perhaps others as well) for each successful base that they attain.

Base Date Blocks:

First Base - Monday 2/15 - Friday 2/26
Second Base - Monday 3/1 - Friday 3/12
Third Base - Monday 3/15 - 3/26
Fourth Base HOME - 3/29 - 4/9

Activity will be reported to Karen each two weeks. You will receive posters to use for the tracking.

From those students completing the eight week program, there will be 25 students chosen to receive an all ACCESS pass for a day at the ballpark for themselves and their families. They will be able to receive player autographs, learn baseball skills, tour the ballpark, meet the players and play in the kids zone. The students who attended last year had a wonderful time.

All Brunson students and staff members have the opportunity to attend the Brunson Night at the Ballpark - Friday, June 4. This is an event whereby students can purchase a ticket to attend the game and receive a free hat ($18 value), a hot dog and a drink and admission to the game. Family members may also purchase a ticket at $9.00 and receive admission and a hat (the hot dog and drink are not included). We will receive ticket order forms to be distributed. All ticket sales are coordinated through the WS Dash office. :)

Thanks,

Deb and Karon
